A Closer Look
The Atomic subframe ARC mask is a vast improvement over the older style bulky external frame mask, whose frame actually handicapped divers peripheral vision. This subframe mask has a strong subframe molded beneath the silicone skirt making for a less bulky frame.
The mask itself is made from soft and stretchy silicone that is comfortable to wear and extremely durable. The strap that holds your mask on is easily adjustable using the built in the buckle system. The buckle itself is fixed to the skirt rather than directly to frame which allows for flexibility.
The lens in this mask uses ARC technology which results is divers having a clearer crisper vision. Distant objects are more defined and the ARC prevents those ghost images on viewing areas of lens. The lens is also tinted violet on both sides to help reduce the reflection of light which further increases clarity.
Surrounding the lens is a stainless steel retainer that locks the lens firmly in place and provides extra strength to the bridge of nose area.
Overall we find most Atomic Aquatics dive equipment to be well designed and well made and this Subframe mask is no exception. While we do believe that any diver would enjoy using this mask and would benefit from the increased clarity you can get using this mask, we also feel that it is well suited for those who do a lot of night diving or underwater photography. Although not cheap, we feel that the durability of this mask will allow most users to get their investment back when using this mask simply because it should last for years for frequent use.

There aren’t many reviews for the Atomic Subframe mask, but the few that are available are quite good. While some people do express difficulty in getting this mask to unfog. However, once users master how to unfog this mask they find it does indeed improve their ability to see underwater especially at night.
If you are just beginning to take lesson for recreational diving and are not sure that you will stay with this hobby, then you might want to consider a less expensive dive mask.
